Preferred Treatment for the Obnoxious

University of Southern California researchers are working on a system that will switch a customer from the automated telephone system to a human operator if he seems angry. Why would anybody think this a good idea? Who wants to live in a world where irrate obnoxious jerks get preferred treatment at the expense of those with enough self-control and civility to wait their turn without complaining?
